This is an annoyingly persistent problem that has been left unaddressed by Anthem; it's highly suggestive that these calls are fraudulent, but their own official website mentions only one different number regarding definite phishing, and makes no acknowledgement one way or the other about this number, despite it being discussed for over six years now!? It may well be that they've subcontracted out with enrollers of some dubious sort, but don't want to admit this, otherwise why not just clearly warn everyone up front? Respond, please, Anthem Blue Cross/ Blue Shield, and I don't mean just some random poster repeating the "it is legitimate" line without substantial corporate admission about this. As this number appears nowhere on their web page, nor the call-back number given in these calls, we must presume that they're fraudulent without corporate verification. Do not respond to these calls; do not give any information to the caller if you end up talking to a live person, as they may already have partial personal info from prior hacks, as mentioned elsewhere here. In the end, all cons are about gaining your identity, one piece at a time. The Anthem hack a couple years ago may have provided enough data to follow through on hundreds of thousands of still-current phone numbers, so literally no one is safe, who ever had insurance with Anthem prior to the hack. |
